Regional Events 2008
Tuesday 3rd June 2008 President’s Day, Hatfield House,
Hertfordshire
Places limited, apply early - Members £50, Guests £55
Between 1607 and 1611, Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury, built his fine Jacobean House adjoining the site of the Old Palace of Hatfield. The 7th Marquess, Lord Salisbury, and this year’s President of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, invites members to join him for President's Day at Hatfield House.
Following coffee and welcome, the day will commence with a seminar for members, held in the converted Riding School. The seminar will be on the subject of planning, focussing on how the estate has moved from its reliance on traditional agriculture to a range of diversification projects. This has required much discussion with planners and we are sure members will find the challenges met and opportunities grasped of real interest. Hatfield is an excellent case study of what can be done in these changing circumstances. There will be invited speakers, drawn primarily from those involved with developments, who will be able to tell the story of development over recent years. There will be plenty of time allocated for questions and discussion.
Non-members attending the event will have an alternative programme viewing the garden. We will adjourn for lunch in the Old Palace, during which the Estate Manager will briefly talk about the farming activities. This will be followed by a tour of the estate viewing projects of development, concluding with an opportunity to view the house itself and tea.
This is a real opportunity and we hope as many members as possible will attend. The House will not be open to the public that day offering our members a special insight into areas not normally seen by the general public.
